Welcome Back! Week 1

Here is what we are doing this week.  If you are absent, please continue working.  Due dates are also listed.

Tuesday, January 8th:
Listen to the song “Cool Kids” on youtube.  Look at the lyrics, and answer the questions from the enclosed paper.  Listen to the song again before answering question 8.  This is kind of a TPCASTT of music.  ;)
Wednesday, January 9th:
You have the partner paper, but you will do this by yourself.  Listen to the song  “Fifteen” and answer the questions same as above.
Thursday, January 10th:
Begin project:  You will make a CD jacket.  Please follow the instructions step by step to make sure you do everything required.
Friday, January 11th:
Finish project.  It is due today.

Here is the rubric for the CD project:  This is a summative grade.

Your Musical Introduction Rubric (Due January 11th)
Your musical choices tell us so much about you.  They not only make clear your taste, but your influences, your experiences so far in life, and your unique personality.
Task: Imagine you have been asked to produce a CD that expresses you!  To complete your musical introduction, you will compile, annotate, and write about three handpicked songs, and illustrate your CD’s Cover.  Make deliberate choices as you put together your CD.  This is a mock-up for what your CD would look like, so you do not have to make these pages fit a CD jewel case.  Instead, use 8 ½ by 11 paper.
____ Three songs that define you in an important way.  Songs that mirror elements of your life
(past or present), your influences, or aspects of your unique personality (15 points)
_____Create liner notes: Write a well-organized one paragraph explanation for each of the 3 songs
included in your CD.  What does the song mean?  Why did you include the song?  How does it
reflect an aspect of your life?  Include a brief, well-chosen quote or two that supports your
            interpretation. (30 points)
_____Construct a cover for your CD.  You can draw or use computer generated art showing overall theme
of your CD. Remember this should still reflect who you are.  Make it colorful.  (30 points)
_____Create a dedication on the back page.  Who are the people who have guided you so far in your life?
Who has believed in you all along?  Remember them now with a thoughtful paragraph that
explains what they  have added to your life. (10 points)
_____Title your CD!  Have fun and use your imagination; be a bit symbolic. Make sure your CD has a
title, your name, and your period number on the front cover. (5 points)
_____Edit and proofread your work carefully. (10 points)
            _____Grammar (3)
            _____Spelling (4)
_____Paragraphs make sense (good sentences) (3)

Total:  _______/100
