March 25-29

PROJECT DUE FRIDAY, March 29th!!  This IS a SUMMATIVE grade!

This week is set aside to finish up your project.  You should have the previous panels finished since we worked on them all last week.  Here is what you need for this week.

Panel 9, Problem/Solution: We started this last week, so you should have a start here.  Honestly, you just need to problem.  If you wand to do both, go ahead, but just the problems is enough.  You must choose 3 problems to draw out comic strip style.

Panel 8, main Character: On this panel you will be writing the main character's name in creative lettering.  Choose 5 adjectives to describe the person.  Do not use normal words like happy or sad, but use your phone to find better vocabulary words here.

Panel 10, Vocabulary: You should have found 5 vocabulary words as you read.  These are world you did not know or know, but didn't know in context.  These must be legitimate vocabulary words, not just five random words.  You must list the words alphabetically, and include their definitions.

Panel 1, Author Notes: You will write a short biography about yourself, and include a picture of you.  You can either draw yourself, or take a picture and glue it to the panel.

Panel 2, Back Cover: You will write your response to the book here.  Give your thoughts about the novel without giving anything away.  Did you like it?  Hate it?  Why?  What rating would you give?

Project Due this Friday, March 29th!  This is a summative grade.

March 18-22

Here is the guideline for working on your book jacket this week.  If you finish all of this by Friday you have done the most time consuming part of the project.

Monday - Wednesday:  Work on the book jacket cover ( panel 4).  Remember, you are duplicating (to the best of your ability) the cover of your book.

Wednesday & Thursday:  Summary (panels 5 & 6). Make sure you write 3 paragraphs telling the beginning/middle/end of your novel.  Don't give anything away!  Be vague, yet tell enough to show you read, and get someone interested in the novel.  Fill in with pictures that relate to what you are reading, or just draw something nice.  Remember, no white space.
Title & Publisher (panel 3): This is the outside spine of the book jacket.  Write the title of the book, be creative in doing this, and then at the bottom put the publisher.

Thursday & Friday: Main Idea (panel 7). This is where you write the main idea for the chapters.  Again, don't give too much away.  I only really need 10 sentences, so you can chunk the chapters together.  Make sure to label the sentences.  Ex: Chapters 1-3 or Pages 1-15...

**If you have all of this finished by Friday you are golden!  Happy weekend.

Book Jacket Book Report: Putting It All Together

Everything you need to know about the project is below:

Front Cover/Panel 4: This is the front cover. In this section you need the title, author’s name, your name, the date and a duplicate of your book cover.
Summary/Panels 5 & 6: This is the front flap. Write a two or three paragraph summary of the book that highlights the beginning, middle, and end of the book. Remember, the summary states the facts, not what you thought about the book.
Main Ideas/Panel 7: This is the inside front. Write a complete sentence describing the main idea for each chapter of the book.
Main Character/Panel 8: This is the inside spine. Use creative lettering to write the name of the main character. Use a thesaurus to find five adjectives that describe him or her. These adjectives should be words that you do not use in your everyday vocabulary. For example, don’t use words like nice, happy, or pretty, to describe the character.
Problems and Solutions/Panel 9: This is the inside back. Use this panel to illustrate, comic book style, three problems the characters faced in the story. Give each picture a one-sentence caption.
Vocabulary/Panel 10: This is the inside back flap. As you read your book, look up words you don’t know. List five new words alphabetically and their definitions.
Author’s Notes/Panel 1: This is the back flap. On this flap, write a short biography about yourself. Include a self-portrait or a snapshot of you.
Back Cover/Panel 2: This is the back cover. You should write a response to the book here. It will be your review of the book. It should include your rating of the book and why.
Spine/Panel 3: This is the outer spine of the book cover. Use creative lettering for the title with publisher’s name at the bottom.

Timeline to complete project:
